Authorities in Abu Dhabi confirmed that six people were injured after air defences intercepted a drone in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD) area on Thursday afternoon.
Officials said the incident happened in the ICAD 2 zone after air defence systems successfully intercepted the drone. Shrapnel from the interception fell at two locations in the area.
The debris caused minor to moderate injuries to six workers of Pakistani and Nepalese nationalities. Emergency teams responded quickly to the scene.
In recent days, residents across the UAE have heard sirens and loud booming sounds during similar incidents. Authorities say these sounds are the result of successful interceptions by the country’s air defence systems.
According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, since the escalation began on February 28, the UAE has detected hundreds of incoming threats.
So far, the figures include:
189 ballistic missiles detected, with 175 destroyed by air defences
941 drones detected, with 876 intercepted
8 cruise missiles detected and destroyed
Some missiles and drones fell into the sea or within UAE territory, causing limited damage. Authorities also reported earlier casualties and injuries involving multiple nationalities.
Officials are continuing to monitor developments closely and said all necessary safety measures remain in place.
Residents are urged to follow updates only from official sources and avoid sharing rumours or unverified information.
